When was the last time you thought about the Kingdom of God?
Be honest…
I will be: I don’t think about it often.
I am far more likely to think about reading the Bible, praying, the Holy Spirit, Jesus, God the Father.
Obviously thinking about all of those different things isn’t bad. In fact, I’d say it’s pretty good.
But what does Jesus say?
Seek first the Kingdom of God.
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness…
—Matthew 6:33a
Undoubtedly we could agree that everything I mentioned is part of seeking the Kingdom, but there seems to be something unique about the Kingdom of God that we need to notice.
In fact, when Jesus begins preaching the first sentence to come out of His mouth is: The Kingdom of God is at hand, repent and believe.
Jesus Begins His Ministry
Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”
—Mark 1:14-15 & Section Heading (ESV)
Not, repent because God is here. Repent because God’s Kingdom is here.
Yes, it was God bringing God’s Kingdom. But when Jesus announces His arrival, He does so by announcing the Kingdom.
So perhaps there’s something noteworthy about actually paying attention to the Kingdom of God, rather than simply looking at components of God’s Kingdom.
I know when I’m slipping a little bit in my walk with Christ I hardly ever say, “I need to get back to seeking God’s Kingdom.”
I usually say something like, “I need to get back to reading the Bible.” or “I need to start praying more often.”
But how would my life change if I did what Jesus told me to do and started “Seeking first the Kingdom of God…”?
How would your life change?
What if I made it my goal to turn my attention toward how God is working and moving in every aspect of life?
What if you made that your goal?
This is a short reflection on The Kingdom of God.
As part of my new job I’ll be teaching a Bible class called, “The Kingdom of God from Genesis to Revelation.”
Already, God has given me different insights into life in His Kingdom and I want to share them with you. Most of them will be short and reflective in nature.
There won’t be any “schedule” with these. I’ll post them sporadically, as the Lord leads.
Additionally, they’ll all be behind a paywall.
Don’t worry, the regular Wednesday morning post will continue to go out for free to everyone. This is simply an additional offering to paid subscribers.
So, enjoy this free post about the Kingdom of God. If you want access to future posts you can upgrade to paid by clicking any of the payment levels below. I want to make sure everyone has affordable access to the posts. Don’t feel any kind of way about the level you choose. All $ amounts get the same access and are all much appreciated.
