Blessed is the man
who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
but his delight is in the law of the Lord,
and on his law he meditates day and night.
He is like a tree
planted by streams of water
that yields its fruit in its season,
and its leaf does not wither.
In all that he does, he prospers.
—Psalm 1:1-3

Hint: It’s every living thing.
Plants, animals, bugs, birds, fish, humans — everything needs water. And as we know, if any of the things I just listed go too long without water, they die. That’s why a desert has very few living things inhabiting it.
The picture we get here in Psalm 1 of the blessed person is that they aren’t living in any desert.
No, the blessed person is planted by streams of water.
This isn’t a circumstantial thing or a thing for only the lucky few. It’s a conscious choice.
