This was a full week. It was challenging due to sickness running through our family (mainly me and my daughters — Jackie was sick a couple weeks ago). But it was great at times, too.
Our offices were closed this week so I was at home every day and very much enjoyed spending time with family and celebrating America 🇺🇸.
If you’re new here, this is a weekly post that summarizes the week & introduces you to other resources.
An Old Post
This is part two of a two part series on believing God. In this one we took a look at an honest confession that resulted in a miracle.
A Book
Counter Culture by David Platt
I’m reading this one for my Ethics course in seminary. It’s been helpful and clarifying for how to approach life in many culturally sensitive areas. You can purchase the book here.
A Song
Another Me by Andy Mineo
Lately I’ve felt the weight and importance of giving everything I’ve got to God and my family. This song communicates what I’ve been feeling.
An Article
It’s hard to pick one article this week, so I won’t. Here are a few I thought were helpful for various reasons.

Hattie
Hattie had a tough Monday night. Her temperature hit 104.6 and we had to give her Motrin at around 8:30pm on top of the Tylenol she had just a few hours earlier. When we got her out of bed at 9:30 to ensure her temperature had gone down she was very concerned for Priscilla. She kept saying, “Sissy! Sissy!” So we showed her “Sissy” on the monitor camera.
But even after she saw Priscilla there asleep, she said, “Sissy! Sissy!”
That’s when Jackie replied, “Do you want us to check on sissy to make sure she’s okay too?”
Hattie gave the strongest head nod alongside her, “Yes” and laid her head on Jackie’s shoulder. Finally content to go lay down and fall asleep.
This little girl, now with a temp of 103.6, who felt terrible, was full of compassion for her sister. That compassion broke me. I just cried, thanking the Lord for daughters who love one another.
Priscilla
On Tuesday morning we ended up at the doctor’s office with both girls to ensure everything was okay. Neither girl loved getting examined and there were lots of tears. I was holding Priscilla when Hattie was getting looked at and said to her, “Hattie’s trying to be brave, can you clap for her?”
Priscilla whipped her head around and, through tears of her own, tried to encourage Hattie with a clap. Similarly to Hattie, in the midst of Priscilla’s pain and struggle, she was concerned for her sissy.
By no means are our daughters perfect, but I sure do love them and love that they love one another well most of the time.
Jackie
Honestly, we made it. We made it, together. I’m thankful hard weeks don’t threaten our marriage. We often make it through the difficult weeks more in love with one another because we did it together.
As always, I’m thankful you’re here. This week we surpassed 300 subscribers. I’m blown away. Your support and encouragement has been incredible.
In case you missed it the article this week was on The Disciplines of An Abundant Life.
Not only that…
Jackie released her first blog as well! It’s yet to be determined if this will be a weekly/ongoing thing for her or not, but enjoy the article!
Have a great weekend!
